Francesca Rivetti - Breath keepers

MLZ Art Dep is pleased to present Breath Keepers, a solo show by Milan-based artist Francesca Rivetti, opening Friday 19 September at 6pm. The result of a research carried out for over two years, the photographic series and the video on show have been entirely realized by the artist herself who free dived in the waters of various countries. As usual, in the works by Francesca Rivetti the narrative marries the symbolic: the images, characterized by a sense of suspension and estrangement, show free divers immersing in the depths of the sea, but at the same time visually reflect the state of altered perception that the human mind experiments in a condition of low oxygen and high pressure caused by depth. While the capacity for mental abstraction is a key component of free diving, it is also at the core of all artistic creation: in Breath Keepers the two disciplines end up merging together, exploring the potentials and limits of the human being.

Venerdì 19 settembre alle ore 18.00, MLZ Art Dep è lieta di inaugurare Breath Keepers, mostra personale dell’artista milanese Francesca Rivetti. Esito di una ricerca di oltre due anni, la serie fotografica e il video presentati in mostra sono stati interamente realizzati in apnea, attraverso le immersioni che l’artista ha compiuto nelle acque di diversi paesi del mondo. Come sempre nel lavoro di Francesca Rivetti l’aspetto narrativo si coniuga con quello simbolico: connotate da un senso di sospensione e straniamento le immagini mostrano figure di apneisti immersi nelle profondità del mare ma, allo stesso tempo, rispecchiano visivamente lo stato di alterazione percettiva che la mente umana sperimenta in condizione di assenza d’aria e di elevate pressioni dovute alla profondità. Se la capacità di astrazione mentale è una componente fondamentale dell’immersione in apnea, essa costituisce anche la base di ogni creazione artistica: in Breath Keepers i due campi disciplinari vengono a fondersi, per sondare potenzialità e limiti dell’essere umano.
